Why I’m your best candidate

What makes me uniquely qualified for this position is my 20 years of private business experience, my service as a Navy veteran and I previously served as a Board of Supervisor in Carson City. As a former supervisor, I am familiar with operations of city government and staff.

Some of today’s top issues are our local roads and maintenance, promoting a business-friendly atmosphere and we need to become money-wise with the city’s budget.

As your mayor we will reassess our priorities and continually to do so throughout each and every year. We cannot no longer defer making decisions, no more kicking the can down the road.

Growth within our community presents challenges, maintaining our rural small-town charm must prevail. The needs of residents who support their community with their hard-earned tax dollars, is a top priority. It is family first and foremost.

*As your Mayor

– will ensure Board of Supervisor consent agenda items are for routine ongoing expenditures only. The big-dollar consent agenda items should be subject to public discussion for transparency, and require a Board vote for approval. The ongoing rubber-stamping fiasco must end.

– ask that before the meeting ends that city staff submit their next agenda package. This will allow citizens amply time to research, seek answers and get responses to their inquiries.

– the voting by the Board on agenda items be posted on the city website when the meeting ends.

– have a city department report on a rotating basis at each Board meeting to discuss their budget, review spending and make needed changes.

I am very proud to live here in Carson City. I believe it is time for a change in leadership. On November 5th Vote for a needed change. Vote Jim Shirk for Mayor.
